Thismia melanomitra Maas and Maas

Described by Maas and Maas (1987). At the time of description only known only from the type collection in Ecuador. Da Silva et al. (2020) recorded it in the north of Mato Grosso/Brazil. Due to its creeping vermiform roots and pyramidal stigma T. melanomitra belongs to the section Pyramidalis, but is the only neotropical Thismia with foveae (bowl-shaped depressions on the mitre). Before the description of T. petasiformis (da Silva & Braga 2022) it also was the only neotropical Thismia having a mitre (fused inner tepals building a hood above the floral tube).
