Gymnosiphon mayottensis Cheek

Gymnosiphon mayottensis is described in Cheek & Tracelet (2020) from Mayotte, an island of the Comores (politically a Departement of France) north of Madagascar. It is similar to Gymnosiphon longistylus for the six filiform stigma appendages and the lack of a globose tuber at the shoot basis (tuber present in G. marieae from Madagascar). It differs from G. longistylus in lacking inner tepal lobes (small lobes present in the floral tube of G. longistylus), short inflorescence internodes and bracts as long as those (internodes longer and bracts only to 1/4 of the internode length), the translucent appearance of its outer tepal lobes (vs. remaining white), the stigma lobes held horizontally (vs. pendulous) as well as their margins are connected to the neighboring lobe (vs. connected at the base only). So far this species in endemic to Mayotte.
