Cyrtosia falconeri (Hooker f.) Averyanov 2011
Cyrtosia falconeri was first described by Hooker (1890) as Galeola falconeri from subtropical Himalaya region from Garwhal, where Falconer found it, to Sikkim where Thomson made the collection (both India). Hooker (1890) noted a close resemblance to G. lindleyana which has smaller flowers. The distinction between the genera Cyrtosia and Galeola was historically not easy. Today they are distinctive by Galeola have a climbing vine habit, aerial roots at nodes and drying dehiscent fruits that are rather capsules than berries. Averyanov (2011) therefore finally transferred this species to the genus Cyrtosia, according to this distinctive feature. This publication furthermore provides a key to the accepted species in the genus at the time. This particular species has today been recorded from East and West-Himalaya, Nepal, Assam, South-East China, Thailand and Vietnam (POWO 2021), where it is very rarely found in altitudes ranging from 1.500 to 2.200 m (Averyanov 2011).
