Thismia rodwayi von Mueller
Firstly described by Baron von Mueller (1890) in a talk, extended little later (von Mueller 1891) with drawings and a list of all Thismia species known to that point of time. He suggested to merge the genera Bagnisia and Thismia as well as Geomitra, but in case these genera should be kept apart, he wanted to see his new taxon as a separate genus (Rodwaya thismiacea) as well. Von Mueller (1891) also states an alternative name, Bagnisia rodwayi, in brackets. The specimen has been found by Mr. L. Rodway from the lower eastern slope of Mount Wellington close to Hobart in Tasmania. Schlechter (1921), a rather splitting taxonomist who subsummized most Thismieae with connected inner tepals under Sarcosiphon (exept Scaphiophora appendiculata, today Thismia appendiculata, and Glaziocharis macahensis, today Thismia caudata), transferred it to Sarcosiphon rodwayi, as well as the taxon coined by Cheeseman (1908), Bagnisia hillii, which has long been synonymous to T. rodwayi until 2014 (see under Thismia hillii). Thismia rodwayi has drawn much attention of the local taxonomist (Coleman 1936, 1941, Bell 1971, Cribb 1986, Roberts et al. 2003) and has been collected to date 54 times from 23 locations (Roberts et al. 2003).
